The Formosum section of Dendrobiumshas been around a long time. But until recently most species of this section, formerly Nigrohirsutae (black haired), were overlooked in favor of the "other" Dendrobiums by hybridizers. This paper is a brief search of literature and registration records to determine the contributions, of this Section, to Dendrobium hybridizing, and subsequent AOS award recognition of those contributions. A few hybridizing problems and some historical notes are briefly touched on.
